Petition: Against Toyota

Petitioners:

  1. Sudan Revolution Support Network – Sweden

  2. Support Sudan Uprising Initiative – Norway

  3. Sudanese Lawyers and Legal Practitioners Association – United Kingdom

  4. African Center for Peace and Justice Studies – United Kingdom

We, the signatories to this petition, wish to voice our deep concerns about the use of Toyota vehicles in the perpetration of serious human rights violations in Sudan including international crimes. It’s well documented that Toyota vehicles were used in military operations during the commission of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. It’s inevitable that Toyota has the knowledge and is aware of the fact that its products have been used for illegitimate purposes contrary to its governing document, End Use Certification as well as to the international human rights law.

We demand Toyota Company to:

  • Publicly declare that the use of Toyota vehicles by the Sudan’s NISS forces and other paramilitary forces in violently combating peaceful protesters constitute a serious violation to human rights as well as Toyota’s End Use Certification,

  • Offer due public apology to the Sudanese people and for all sorts of damage and harm caused.

  • Immediately open a serious, thorough and transparent investigation into how Sudan’s Government has obtained these Toyota vehicles and upon which end use certification;

  • Immediately stop supplying spare parts for the vehicles used by Sudan Government and its infamous apparatus NISS and paramilitary forces;

  • Fully expose the networks of agents and middlemen, and hold them legally accountable for their illicit transactions;
